Five authorities and six municipalities are now inviting multidisciplinary teams to sketch visions for the future habitats in Kiruna, Gällivare, Boden, Luleå, Skellefteå and Umeå. The call is part of the EU initiative New European Bauhaus, which aims to encourage architects, designers, engineers, creators, artists, researchers, students and others to take on the challenge of creating beautiful, sustainable and inclusive living environments.
“Imagining: the north” or “Visioner: i norr” is a first step in an effort to engage many in the transformation of our society. The sketch work is about showing the way to innovative living environments that protect people and the environment in a visionary, concrete and locally anchored way. Among other things, it is investments in green industry in several of the municipalities that make them interesting and potential international role models when it comes to climate change and the creation of attractive living environments.
Opportunity for cross-sectoral teams
Between 1 November and 1 December, cross-sectoral teams with an artistic height can register an interest in participating. Registration is via www.arkdes.se . The idea sketch is carried out in February within the framework of a call for funding financed by Vinnova and Formas through a grant of SEK 300,000 per team. The results, which will be presented in March 2022, will be used in the municipalities’ strategic planning and disseminated to other actors within the large international EU network around the New European Bauhaus. Behind the call are the six municipalities in collaboration with the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning, ArkDes, the Swedish Energy Agency, Vinnova and Formas.
