The Environment and Building Committee of the Municipality of Boden has granted a time-limited building permit for the temporary contractor accommodation previously appealed on Slipvägen in Boden.
For workers who need housing in Boden for a limited time, a number of temporary contractor residences are planned. The building permit for one of the areas, on Slipvägen with 660 planned rooms, was recently appealed by an entrepreneur who operates horse and trotting activities in the area. The case was therefore referred back to the Boden Municipality’s Environmental and Building Committee for further processing.
The Committee has now decided to grant a new temporary building permit, supplemented with clarifications and responses to the points raised in the appeal. The new building permit emphasizes the importance of dismantling the area and restoring the land when the houses are no longer needed. It is also emphasized that if the applicant (H2 Green Steel) needs the houses after the granted temporary five-year period, a new examination must take place in accordance with applicable legislation. The Committee also addresses issues such as noise barriers, hills, and plantings against noise disturbances, and the distance between potential allergy sufferers at the contractor residence and the adjacent horse activity.
The building permit can be appealed to the County Administrative Board until the end of October. Only after it has gained legal force can construction of the contractor houses begin on site.
Faced with the great need for contractor housing, the municipality of Boden has taken the lead through a regulated framework agreement with H2 Green Steel. Five main geographical areas are selected where operation and maintenance must comply with municipal requirements. During the construction period of H2 Green Steel, the need for contractor housing is estimated to be around 5000 people. The municipality of Boden plans to provide land for 3000.
According to a political decision in June 2021, the municipality of Boden is responsible for planning and designating areas for temporary accommodation.
The planned construction and maintenance of the sites is the responsibility of H2 Green Steel.
The areas identified for entrepreneurial housing are Prästholmen/Björkelund, Nylandsbäcken, Slipvägen/Bodsvedjan, Sävast BBP and Sävast.
