Is the steel really green? Why doesn’t it catch fire when it’s so hot? Why does my dad have to work so much? There were many questions when the International School’s 19 pupils aged between six and 13 visited Stegra’s meeting place in central Boden.
The Stegra meeting place in Enter Galleria is open and staffed every Tuesday for anyone who wants to know more and discuss the ongoing steelworks construction. The meeting place is also visited by school classes, mainly upper secondary schools, but younger classes are also welcome.
The other day, the International School of Boden made its visit there with the school’s 19 primary school students and teachers. In total 13 different nationalities were represented in the room, 14 with Stegra’s Swedish representative.
The hosts were Stegra’s Philip Öhman and Nigel Fisher, who together told the pupils about steel production and Stegra’s work in Boden. Among other things, they learned that there are now about 3,000 people working at Boden Industrial Park, they got to see pictures of how the area is emerging and what it will look like when it is completed.
The students had prepared questions and bombarded Nigel and Philip with a variety of thoughtful musings.
“This is what your parents are working hard to build, and many of us believe in this. Maybe you will also work there in the future”, says Nigel Fisher to the children.
The meeting place is open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is planned to be extended with more times during the summer. Take the opportunity to go there and ask your questions just like the students. The entrance to the meeting place is from Gågatan to the right of the entrance to Enter galleria.
“We have quite a lot of visitors and it is extra fun when schools come here”, says Philip Öhman.
