Occupancy has now begun in the first newly built contractor housing at Nylandsbäcken in Boden. Gradually, up to 132 people will be added here, as more entrepreneurial housing is completed on other designated sites.
Nylandsbäcken in Boden is the first area for temporary contractor housing that is now fully ready for occupation, closely followed by Slipvägen 1.
At Nylandsbäcken, intensive work has been going on with groundwork and construction during the winter and spring, and now the doors are opening for the new tenants.
Workers already in temporary accommodation will not be moved to Nylandsbäcken, but will be replenished there in the first instance as more people arrive.
The outdoor environment will invite recreation. The larger existing vegetation in the form of birch is saved and paths will lead residents to seating areas/fireplaces.
“It feels great that we now have our first area with temporary housing in place for those who are here and build our steel plant”, says Emma Hurtig, project manager for the construction of H2 Green Steel’s temporary housing and continues:
“Our starting point is that it should be a good and safe solution for both those who will live here and for those who live nearby. Therefore, we have a comprehensive approach to logistics and security with, among other things, bus transportation to and from the steelworks building, guard rounds and information dissemination and house rules to be followed”, says Emma Hurtig.
Temporary staff
The temporary housing is only intended for staff working in Boden temporarily during the construction of the new steelworks and hydrogen plant at Boden Industrial Park.
H2 Green Steel is responsible for the construction, maintenance and restoration of the areas.
According to a political decision, the municipality of Boden is already responsible in 2021 for providing land and temporary building permits for the temporary housing.
Close collaboration
“The role of the municipality now that the move-in has begun is to continue the close cooperation we have established with all parties involved to ensure and maintain safety and security at the homes”, says Gabriella Snell, construction project manager, project and investment unit in the municipality of Boden.
For example, there is a group consisting of municipal representatives, H2 Green Steel and police. The group meets on a weekly basis and when necessary in between to prevent and address issues.
“It can be anything from order and tidiness to waste management, traffic situation, information and communication”, explains Gabriella Snell.
“For us, the collaboration we have with the municipality and other actors is a very important part of our work with temporary entrepreneurial housing”, says Emma Hurtig, project manager at H2 Green Steel.
Preparations are also underway at the Slipvägen 1 site, which is one of the larger sites with up to 660 planned temporary homes for contractors. Building permission has also been granted at Boden Business Park in Sävast.
