On January 25, the municipality of Boden’s detailed plan for a new residential area on Petön will go out for consultation. The local plan enables 310-410 new homes of various types, with attractive living environments and natural areas.
As part of the ongoing societal transition and to meet the increased demand for housing, a new area is currently being planned for development on Petön, Sävastön.
The area is bordered by the Luleå river on one side and the Sävast creek on the other, with about ten minutes each way to the center of Boden and to the border to Luleå municipality.

The local plan, which is now out for consultation, allows for 310 – 410 new homes, public spaces and the protection of sensitive natural areas. According to the proposal, the new residential area on Petön will be built with terraced houses, semi-detached houses, apartments and single-family plots of varying sizes. The zoning plan contains certain property regulations, including the height of the buildings’ roofs, red roofs and a ban on basements. The area closest to Sävastån is proposed to be preserved as a natural area.

The investment in Petön also involves solutions for municipal infrastructure, water, sewage, district heating and traffic.
“The municipality of Boden is in a growth phase with major industrial investments, which means an expected increase in population. This requires more jobs, housing and basic services. The detailed plan for Petön is part of this development”, says Lars Andersson, Head of Planning and Development at the Municipality of Boden.
In total, almost 3,000 new homes are planned for the municipality of Boden in the coming years, with an estimated population increase of up to 5,000 more inhabitants by 2030.
The detailed plan is out for consultation from January 25 to February 22. From January 25, materials are on display at the Boden Business Park, City Hall and Boden City Library.
On February 7 at 4-8 pm, staff from the municipality of Boden will be present in the light house at Boden Business Park to provide information and answer questions.
