Construction work is now underway on two of the planned areas for temporary contractor housing in Boden. Nylandsbäcken was the first, and for some time now work has also been going on at Slipvägen 1.
H2 Green Steel’s groundwork for the first temporary contractor housing in Boden started on Nylandsbäcken after the New Year and has also started on Slipvägen 1 during the spring.
Slipvägen 1 is one of the larger areas with up to 660 planned temporary housing units for contractors.
At Slipvägen 1, groundwork is now underway to prepare for the future modular housing. It is hoped that occupancy will begin in May-June 2024.
The accelerated pace of construction at both the Boden Industrial Park and the contractor housing areas is a clear signal that the work on H2 Green Steel’s construction is becoming more and more intensive. At the same time, the number of staff on the ground is growing faster and faster.
“We are now 400 people and expect to be close to 500 by the end of the month”, says Anne Graf, Head of Regional Affairs, H2 Green Steel.
Shared responsibility
The municipality of Boden is responsible for planning and marking areas for the temporary contractor housing, according to a political decision from June 2021. The municipality will provide land and temporary building permits for much of the approximately 4,000 temporary homes currently estimated to be needed when the construction project reaches its peak in 2025.
The temporary housing is intended for staff working in Boden during the construction period, with time-limited building permits. H2 Green Steel is responsible for the planned construction, the management of the sites and the restoration of the sites afterwards.
In the main areas selected, common requirements for location, standards and maintenance are set to ensure the wellbeing and safety of residents, businesses and neighbors.
