Three steps – one goal: to make social sustainability a natural part of Boden’s green transition.
Local stakeholders gathered for a half-day workshop at Boden Business Park in Sävast to discuss the next steps in planning a new center for social sustainability. The workshop is part of the ongoing feasibility study for the Boden Sustainability Center (BSC), which aims to anchor Boden’s green transition in strong social and human dimensions.
A concrete proposal was presented outlining the center’s development in three phases:
- Phase 1, 2026 – Establishment: A physical center is established in central Boden.
- Phase 2, 2027-2028 – Development: The operation expands with more functions and forms of collaboration.
- Phase 3, 2029-2030 – Expansion: The center is scaled up with activities to become a natural meeting place for the people of Boden, both physically and digitally.
Reflections and direction
During the afternoon, participants discussed the insights and needs identified so far in the project, with a particular focus on the work of the thematic working groups: Education and Skills development, Social Sustainability, and Business and Innovation.
The working groups will continue their work over the summer. After the holidays, all stakeholders will meet again to shape a concrete and feasible proposal.
“The day truly exceeded my expectations. It became clear how much we can achieve when knowledgeable, experienced people – many of whom were already involved before the feasibility study – come together. The engagement in the room was genuine,” says Christine Musembi, project manager for the Boden Sustainability Center.

Collaboration and support
The project is a collaboration between stakeholders among others Stegra, Polar Structure, Boden Tillsammans, Boden Business Park and the Municipality of Boden. The feasibility study is funded by Vinnova through the call Future Attractive Living Environments through a Socially Sustainable Industry.
The center is envisioned as an open platform – both physical and digital – where people, ideas and initiatives come together to contribute to a sustainable societal transition.
“Our goal is to have a finished proposal from the feasibility study to present when the project period ends in November,” she says.
