A fourth area of temporary contractor housing is on the way. Stegra and the municipality of Boden are planning to enable 712 beds in the Moråsen area in Boden. A preliminary decision has been granted and work can thus begin.
There is a continued need for temporary entrepreneurial housing in Boden. So far, Stegra has built housing at Nylandsbäcken, Slipvägen 1 and at Boden Business Park/Sävast. Together they accommodate a total of about 1500 beds. Around 3,000 people currently work at Boden Industrial Park and more are expected gradually. This means that the pressure on housing is great, as is the importance of having areas that comply with the municipality’s set requirements for standards, maintenance and supervision.
Both Stegra and the municipality have been working to find more alternatives to quickly relieve the existing housing market.
Moråsen has been included as an option in the past as well, but primarily areas were chosen where there was already completed infrastructure. There was also an idea of integrating the temporary contractor housing with existing residential areas.
Moråsen is located along road 356 just outside Boden in the direction of Svartbjörnsbyn and Buddbyn.
“The area is relatively close to Boden Industrial Park and thus does not burden traffic in the city center. Our hope is that this will be as good a solution as possible to get more temporary housing that meets the municipality’s requirements and relieves the other housing market”, says Gabriella Snell, project manager Boden municipality.
Groundwork will begin as soon as possible and occupancy is planned for late fall.
The homes planned to be assembled at Moråsen are already prefabricated and reusable from Skellefteå. This has an effect on the cost, sustainability and time aspects.
“We want to continue to do what we can to try to avoid those who are here temporarily during the construction of our facility displacing vacant permanent housing that our own staff need”, says Anne Graf, Head of Community Relations for Stegra in Boden.
According to a political decision in 2021, the municipality of Boden will provide land and temporary building permits for up to 3000 temporary homes. This is to relieve the regular housing market and to set common requirements for location, standard and maintenance of all housing. Stegra is responsible for the construction, maintenance and restoration of the areas.
The temporary entrepreneurial housing is only intended for workers who are temporarily in Boden. People staying longer are referred to permanent housing and encouraged to register in Boden municipality.
