Around 40 people with skills and experience from a number of professions that Boden needs now and in the future were invited to be matched with needs and employers.
Civil engineer Monica Torgrip from Stockholm, process worker Ibrahim Omar from Gothenburg, transport worker Axel Arendt from Fågelfors and assistant nurse Jessica Sierra from Malmö were some of the people who traveled via the Swedish Public Employment Service’s recruitment trip from the south to the jobs in the north.
– Now, during this tour I have made up my mind. My wife and I have been thinking about moving here and this was great. We have two small children, aged four and six, and my wife works in health and social care. For us, quality of life and more time for children and family is important. I really wish we can get jobs and find housing here and grow together with the community, and contribute. I am very grateful for this opportunity and both municipalities that have welcomed us,” says Ibrahim Omar, a newly qualified process operator.
The group also included Monica Torgrip, a civil engineer with experience in industry.
– I live in Stockholm now but have lived up here before and would love to return north. The children are grown up and one of them is moving to Piteå so it would feel right to move here. Above all, I’m looking forward to having real winters again,” she says.
– I’m already sold, I want to move here. I didn’t even need the tour and I could have a job interview right now while I’m here,” says Jessica Sierra, who hopes to be matched with a job in healthcare here. She also points out the calm she experiences here.
Axel Arendt also mentions the mentality and environment as attractive.
During the tour, guides from Boden Business Park and Visit Boden took turns providing information and inspiration on everything from the major investments being made in infrastructure and Boden Industrial Park, with descriptions of various destinations and what it is like to live and work here. A stop at the Rödbergsfortet fortress offered Boden’s history with views from one major social change to another. The tour ended at the Defense Museum Boden with coffee, follow-up and mingle where there was the opportunity to get help to get more answers to their questions and register on the web Move to Boden where job seekers are matched with employers looking for staff. On the first day of the fair, the Swedish Public Employment Service’s selection of employers was also present for physical meetings. From Boden it was Boden municipality, Stegra and SMS Group who participated. So did the Norrbotten region and a number of transport companies and Luleå municipality.
The group that visited Boden and Luleå included: Assistant nurse, care assistant, nurse, dentist, dental nurse, medical secretary, biomedical analyst, social secretary with a focus on children and young people, warehouse worker, terminal worker, crane operator, forklift driver, maintenance mechanic, maintenance technician, process operator, maintenance manager, shift manager in production, truck driver with C and CE qualifications, mechanic, and vehicle care with a B driving license.
– Unemployment in northern Sweden is low, while employers need workers with the right skills. This is a way to both show the breadth of jobs available and give a picture of what life in northern Sweden has to offer,” says Victoria Drugge at the Swedish Public Employment Service’s office for transformation and matching in the north.
